Show Cora Thorn Bird to Give j Vocal Concert April 23 Hafen-Dallin and Federated Clubs To Sponsor Miss Bird's First Home-Town Musical Concert Cora Thorne Bird, concert singer and radio artist, will be presented in a concert April 23, by the Hafen-Dallin Art club and the Federated clubs of Springville in what is expected to be a fine musical program. This will be Mrs. Bird's first concert in her na- tive town, but by no means the first in her varied and successful career as a concert singer and radio ra-dio artist. The winner of two major vocal contests conducted by the National Nation-al Federation of Music clubs, she appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Shrine Band in the Philharmonic Auditorium, and also with the Woman's Lyric club. For three years she was soloist in the English Lutheran church in Los Angeles. She was prima donna with the Shrine Light Opera Co., and sang the title role in "Rose Marie" in the Adhor Opera of the Air. One season she was soloist at Grauman's Chinese theatre and doubled the singing voice for Lionel Barrymore's leading lady in the stage production of "Laugh, Clown, Laugh." Besides being soloist on the "Church of the Air" program for the Columbia Broadcasting System, Sys-tem, she has acted as staff artist of the leading radio stations of Los Angeles, and has sung in most of the recent major musical pictures produced by Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer. Following her appearance at an exclusive concert of recent date, at the University Book club, the following paragraph appeared in the Los Angeles papers: Uplifted By Song "Miss Church was followed by Miss Cora Thorne Bird, noted operatic and motion picture soprano, so-prano, who sang 'Let My Song Fill Your Heart' as sweet as any bird could sing it. Her voice is soft, sweet, and smooth as velvet. As an encore she sang 'My Little Nest of Heavenly Blue,' with a witchery and daintiness beyond anything we had heard before. She was accompanied, and very capably, cap-ably, by Miss Lutie Burke. The performance left the audience completely entranced. "Dr. John Clairmont, president, and Clarence Mead, chairman, were complimented for presenting one of the finest programs of the year." |
