This book is full of action, great battles of history books are made to live. Mr. Roberts endows his pages with an epic quality. His characters are both great men and little men fighting with guns and with ideas. Oliver, the hero, is a Yale man with loyalist ideals. He remains loyal to his kind and steadfast to his idea of justice and is hated by his neighbors and called a traitor. The events are told in detail. The story moves slowly against a background of war and trouble. Those who like history in novel J form will like this book. It tops :the list as national best seller. In the last 22 years of his 40 years, Halliburton wrote over a thousand letters to his mother and father. If these were printed in full, they would fill several volumes. vol-umes. Only most interesting were used for this volume. On March 5, 1939, Halliburton sailed from Honkong, China, and his destination was the fair at San Francisco.
