Show It's !lf business! By LITTLE HULL OF THE MULTIPLE thousands of teachers in our schools and colleges, only a tiny per cent practice prac-tice subversion. But we know that this field is almost the principal target of the Reds, and their infiltration in-filtration must be prevented at any cost. Now there is a tremendous amount of hullabaloo being constantly con-stantly raised against "tampering'--with our children's education. The so-called "vigilance committees" are being damned as enemies of our public school systems. Anyone who raises his voice in protest against some of the textbooks is labeled a "suppressor of academic freedom." These "vigilance committees" are not formed for the fun of being be-ing a vigilante. In "fact, participation participa-tion in their activities is probably anything but pleasant. It entails work and it lays the members open to vilification and abuse. These groups are formed by parents who are concerned about the way certain cer-tain political theories are being taught 'in the schools not about the theories themselves. Every child, in these days, should be made aware of the meaning of the Marxist Marx-ist system as well as that of our own capitalistic system. Otherwise they would be mentally incapable of protecting themselves against the false blandishments which the Reds and their fellow-travelers are - so adept at handing out. But when a child comes home from school spouting the old familiar line of Red rot, do the "defenders of academic freedom" except their parents to do or say nothing? Do they believe all American parents are so dumb they can't recognize the fine hand of a pink-tinted "educator" "edu-cator" from that of the teacher who teaches facts and lets the child make up his own mind about them? We don't want our youth influenced influ-enced in the classroom toward a policy which we are fighting on the battlefield, and we don't intend that they shall be regardless of the outraged feelings of those who object to parents' rights over their own children. We haven't yet reached the point where the kids belong to the state. - 1 |
