Show Ifew5 Yjoted Mrs. Sarah Davis has returned to her home in Springville from a trip to California and to Oregon. She visited her sister in California and together they traveled to Union, Un-ion, Oreg., to see another sister. Mrs. Lewis Bird and her son Jim Bird returned Friday noon from Alaska, enjoying the 3200 mile trip home by automobile over the Alcan highway and the Canadian prairie. Mrs. Bird traveled to Alaska Alas-ka by plane two weeks ago to visit Jim, who has been employed there on the airbase the past two years. During her stay there, they attended at-tended church and say a number of Springville people including Capt. and Mrs. Don Frandsen and Dean Tew, and also visited the Frandsens at their home. During the week she was at Fairbanks, they also took a number of interesting inter-esting trips, taking pictures of the places visited. The Alcan highway, which is 1600 miles of new gravel road, proved one of scenic beauty with lakes, pine trees and forests along the way and the Canadian prairie lands were also described as most interesting. It took nearly six days to make the return trip went to attend the ceremony in which Ernest A. Strong was presented pre-sented the Silver Antelope, one of Scoutings highest awards at the Statler Hotel. They planned also to go to San Diego, Calif., .to visit Mr. Clyd's sister, Mrs. Clara C. Christensen and family. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Perry and daughter Elaine and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gardner were in Blackfoot, Ida., the past week to visit a daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Christensen. J. A. Strong, public accountant, is this week attending the fourth annual tax institute sponsored by the colleges of business administration adminis-tration and law of the University of Denver at Denver, Colo. The tax institute is co-sponsored by the Colorado Society of Certified Public Pub-lic Accountants, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Denver Bar Association, and is recognized as one of the leading tax institutes held in the country. The special roster of speakers includes accountants, lawyers, and other noted practioners who have become nationally recognized from their contributions to the field of taxation. " The institute is being held for the purpose of interpretation of the Internal Revenue Cost of 1954, the enactment of which resulted in a complete overhaul of Federal tax laws. Most of the changes in the income tax provisions apply to the calendar year 1954, with certain exceptions limiting application appli-cation to transactions effected after af-ter enactment or a specific date, or to taxable years beginning after enactment, it was pointed out at the meet. Sgt. and Mrs. Eldon Stallings have been visiting here from Ft. Eustis, Va., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wray Nelson. Sgt. Stallings Stall-ings left Sunday for Ft. Lewis where he expects to be assigned to overseas duty in the Far East. His wife, the former LaRae Nelson and baby son will remain with her parents par-ents 'in Springville. Mrs. George Ostler has returned to her' home from the Payson hospital hos-pital where she received treatment following an accident in which she suffered a fractured leg. Mrs. Sarah Mason has returned to her home here following a month's visit with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Thornton (Delia Mason) in San Diego. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford W. Clyde have spent the past few days in Los Angeles, Calif., where Ihey Mrs. Ted Mitchell recently were his sister, Mrs. Whitey Inhen and her daughter, Sharon, of Avenal, Calif. Sharon has registered for her second year at the BYU and Mrs. Inhen stayed for general conference in Salt Lake. Mrs. Mitchell's Mit-chell's father, Dave McKie and his wife of Dalhart, Texas, were also recent visitors spending ten days at the Mitchell home. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Goodliffe had as visitors recently Mr. Good-liffe's Good-liffe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Char-les W. Goodliffe of Brigham City. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bird had as their dinner guests Monday evening Bishop and Mrs. Reed M. Bowen and family visiting here from Burley, Ida. Miss Mary Ann Harding, daugh-, ter of Mrs. Aileen B. Harding of Manhasset Long Island, N. Y., visited briefly in Springville Thursday Thurs-day of last week enroute with two friends from New York to enroll in her senior year at Stanford University. Uni-versity. Mrs. Lettie Rooks of Mariana, Fla., is visiting at the John Patrick Pat-rick home coming especially to be with her daughter, Mrs. Patrick, who is convalescing from a recent major operation.
