Show Mexican Cattle Import Costs To Be Increased Costs of importing Mexican cattle cat-tle into the United States after ! the border is reopened December 31, 1954, are expected to be higher than the presently published costs, reports the current issue of National Na-tional Live Stock Producer. Average costs based on present figures for a herd of 500 cattle Weighing between 200 and 440 pounds are estimated at $5.85 per cwt. A herd of 500 head weighing between 440 and 700 pounds would cost an estimated ?4.75 per cwt. for importing costs. Excellent rains in the Chihuahua Chihua-hua and Sonora range areas during dur-ing the past two months would indicate in-dicate that Mexican cattle will be in top condition in October. For this reason the cattlemen's union of both states are urging an earlier earl-ier opening of the border rather than the December 31 date set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. |
