Show Auditors Go Over " Books with Council Members Willard Smith of the Wood, Child, Mann and Smith auditing firm reviewed the 1953 audit report re-port with the city council at their regular meeting Monday night. Springville's assessed valuation in 1953 was $3,759,114, it was stated stat-ed and receipts exceeded disbursements disburse-ments in 1953 by $26,143.66. A total of $50,400 was paid into the bond interest and sinking fund of the Electric and Water Works departments. de-partments. After a payment o $41,066.25, to redeem bonds and interest. The balance in the bond retirement fund was $42,722.03. The Sewage disposal plant fund showed a balance of $13,338.00. The balance in the cemetery trust fund was $83,007.85. The Electric department paid $1,500.00 monthly into the Electric Utility replacement replace-ment fund or a total of $18,000, the audit showed. A total of $70,000 of the cemetery trust funds are invested in 91 day treasury bills and G bonds. Included in the expenses vvas ,$30,423.37 for water line extensions exten-sions and $58,997.60 for new sewer lines and extensions.- Roy and Jerry Woodward, directors di-rectors of the Athletic club in Provo, met with the council to see if it might be possible to set up a similar program in Springville. The Memorial hall was suggested as a suitable place for such activity. The American Legion who have a lease on the Memorial Hall is to be contacted by them. The council favored supporting the United Nations week, from October 17 to October 24. The United Nations Day October 24 is to be observed throughout the Nation by proclamation of the president of the United States. The members of the council agreed to contact the various clubs to have them support the bond election to be held October 28, for the construction of a sewer disposal plant and the extension of the' sewer lines. |
