Show Apples Ripening Early This Year Apples are ripening about two weeks earlier than normal and Utah growers have been warned not to leave them on the trtes too long. Dr. Robert A. Norton, assistant professor of horticulture at Utah State Agricultural College, cautioned cau-tioned today that apples left on trees too long may develop a condition known as water core. He explained that with this condition applts . look perfect flesh is glassy or watery in appearance ap-pearance particularly around the core. Because of the early ripening, due to the dry stason and abnormally abnor-mally high temperatures, apples may not take on as high coloring as usual. "However if growers wait to get the color it may be too late," Dr. Norton said. |
