Show Cattle Tested for Bang's Disease Approximately 130,01)0 cattle I have been tested for Bang's abortion abor-tion disease at the animal pathology path-ology laboratory at the Utah State .Agricultural college since testing was initiated in October 1034, according ac-cording to Dr. D. E. Madscn, animal ani-mal pathologist. The testing was done in 17,705 herds throughout the state. Nineteen Nine-teen per cent of herds tested were infected and 6.5 per cent, or 3,559 cattle tested to date were found to be diseased. Dr. Madscn estimated that the loss from Bang's disease amounts to $25 a cow each year in dairy cattle. At this figure Utah dairymen dairy-men have lost approximately $213,975 from diseased cattle during dur-ing the last 26 months. Dairymen who have their herds tested under federal supervision are eligible to receive indemnities for reacting cows that arc slaughtered, slaugh-tered, Dr. Madsen said. |
