Show SPORTSMEN ELECT NEW OFFICERS HERE Maurice Anderson was elected president of the Springville Sports-mens Sports-mens association at an annual meeting marking the beginning of a membership campaign, Saturday Satur-day night. Mr. Anderson succeeds Ed Johnson who was elected vice-president. vice-president. Lloyd Bird was re-elected secretary-treasurer with Charles Whiting, Stanley Hind-marsh, Hind-marsh, J. B. White, Reed Rig-trup, Rig-trup, George Nelson, V. O. Hafen and Alton Snow, directors. Newell B. Cook, state fish and game commissioner, was the principal speaker during the evening. even-ing. He discussed bills now before the state legislature in connection with fish and game problems. Commissioner Cook favored the bill whereby farmers and ranchmen ranch-men would be enabled to protect beaver and as compensation be allowed to trap the animals and receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. He also spoke in favor of the bill through which farmers could collect col-lect 25 cents per bird for each pheasant kild by hunters on his property during open season. The land must be previously reserved by the farmers-. This plan would compensate the farmer for feeding feed-ing the pheasants, he believed. Commissioner Cook expressed disapproval dis-approval of the bill combining the agriculture department with the state fish and game department depart-ment giving several reasons for his opinion. The meeting, under the direction direc-tion of Ed Johnson, was well attended. at-tended.
