Show ; Kiwanis Inter-Club Art Banquet Attracts 250 "Art is the ma.ster builder only when it is creative," "Art will liu one above the common place." -Art is nature plus personality," "All leaders in every science are taught by nature, life's greatest i teacher." These were some of , the thoughts expressed by the t Reverend John Edward Carver of Ogden in an especially inspiring and interesting talk last Thursday night, at the annual art banquet i and program sponsored by the Kiwanis Ki-wanis club at the high school. I Dr. Carver paid special tribute to the late John Hafen, Springville Spring-ville artist whom he knew person-I person-I ally- He told briefly of the history of Springville dealing with event' relative to the founding of the art projeet. Wayne Johnson, of the high school art department, explained a number of the pictures in the art gallery, and spoke briefly on the artists' life. Governor John Fagerstcdt of the Utah-Idaho Kiwanis district, from Weiser, Ida., as a special guest of the occasion, spoke brief- j y as did Orson Slack, lieutenant governor of the southern Utah Kiwanis district, of Provo. Professors Pro-fessors B. F. Larson and E. H. Eastmond of the Brigham Young university and V. O. Fafen, local artist and their wives attended the affair as special . guests. . A total of approximately 250 Kiwan-ians Kiwan-ians and their partners, representing represent-ing practically every club in the state, attended the affair. Salt Lake City with 35 members and guests had the largest representation representa-tion of any single club in attendance. President G. Lowry Anderson of the local club had the arrangements arrange-ments in charge and introduced Principal W. W. Brockbank of the high school, president of the art association, as toastmaster of the evening. Music was given by Martin Iverson of Provo, who rendered two vocal solos; Richard Love-ridge Love-ridge and Bern Larson, the latter of Provo, gave instrumental music. 'Attendance awards, consisting of small oil paintings, were presented present-ed during the evening to Mrs. Leslie Les-lie A. Smith of Salt Lake City and F. J. Faux of Spanish Fork. A large majority of the out-of-town club members arrived at the gallery early in the evening to view the pictures in the art exhibit. ex-hibit. The club art luncheon is held annually in April when members mem-bers throughout the state are asked ask-ed to attend and visit the gallery. |
