HANSEN The evil effects of tobacco on ths human body are summarized in "The Temperance Catechism" as follows: "On the blood making it poor and thin, on the stomach, weaken-ing weaken-ing the power of digestion, causing 'ss of appetite and giving to sickness; on the heart, causing weakness and irregular action; on the organs of sense on the eye causing confusion and even loss of sight; on the Car, by caus-iriS caus-iriS whistling or ringing sounds, nd making people unable to hear distinctly; on the brain, by first stimulating and then depressing Us action; on the tonsils (smok-' ers' throat) redness, dryness and sometimes peeling; with unnatural f'miness, shrinking, or sponginess of the gums, and worst of all, cncer of the lips, tongue, etc.; on lungs, when they are in irritable ir-ritable condition by keeping up the '""Ration and increasing the cough." |
