Show Annual Art Exhibit QpeJJumday With i-,ae Array Of Pictures "Art is a thing which must have roots deep in a native soil," declared Miss Mabol Frazer of the University of Utah art department, de-partment, in her adiess at the opening program of the thirteenth annual high school art exhibit, Sunday. Miss Fiaz.er characterized the government plan of putting 2,500 unemployed artists back to work, as one of the biggest movements of its kind in the history of the United States. "Its effect upon American art will be lasting," she declared. In commenting upon the influence in-fluence f art upon the individual Miss Frazer urged that more and belter pictures be placed in homes and public buildings. A large number uf out-of-town visitors and local citizens attended at-tended the formal opening and remained after the exercisji to view the pictures. President E. E. Knudsen of the art committee was in charge of the Sunday program. Mrs. C. E. Eggertson, president of the Home Culture club, in behalf of the club, presented the art committee .with a contribution sufficient to place the club name on the honor list of art benefactors. The presentation presenta-tion was followed by the introductions intro-ductions of committeemen and visiting art patrons as follows: President Isaac Brockbank, and j J. Emmett Bird of Nebo school I district board, County Commis-I Commis-I sioner Hilton A. Rrbertson; Sup-1 Sup-1 erintendent Melvin Wilson; J. F. Wingate, president of the Kiwanifl club and secretary-treasurer of the art committee; Wayne Johnson art curator; Mrs. Mae Huntington, publicity chairman; Mrs. Martha Harrison and Mrs. George A. , Anderson, president of the ! Mothers' Study and Alpha Beta clubs, respectively. The high school orchestra, directed dir-ected by Clair Johnson, gave two selections; Vern Davis gave a violin solo and the high school mixed quartet, a vocal selection. The exhibit will remain open from 9, a. m. until 9 p. m. each day during the entire month of April and the public is cordially i invited to attend, President Knud-! Knud-! sen announced. On Monday a specially arrang-i arrang-i ed art prvogim for students was held at the high school. Professor Herald L. Clark of the Brigham Young university gave an interesting inter-esting and inspiring talk on art. The high school orchestra again furnished the music program. |
