Show "BROADWAY GONDOLIER" IS SONG HIT Movie makers feel proud when they have one song hit in a screen musical. Now Warner Bros, come forward with a picture In which no loss than six songs are confidently confi-dently expected to become outstanding out-standing hits. The picture is "Broadway Gondolier," Gon-dolier," which comes to the Rivoli theater on Sunday. Powell and Joan Blondell, popular stars of "Gold Diggers of 1933, are reunited. re-united. Together with Adolphe. Mcnjou and Louise Fazenda they head the all-star cast. Harry Warren and Al Dubin ace song-writing team, have won wide acclaim for their offorts in previous Warner Bros, productions, produc-tions, but with the release of "Broadway Gondolier," it is believed be-lieved that even greater commendation commend-ation will be showered upun them. In addition the singing of the popular Dick Powell, the catchy airs of Warren and Dubiu are ably presented by three groups of radio favorites, the Four Mills Brothers, Tod FioRito with his nationally fumed orchestra, and the Canova Family. "Lonely Gondolier" is a plaintive plain-tive melody which Powell sings in both English and Italian and be also sings the lilting "Rose in Her Hair" in both languages. "Outside of You" and "You Can Be Kissed" are two other Warren and Dubin songs headed for "best sellers" divisions, and "The Cow and the Pig and The Duck 'is already being hailed as an outstanding kiddie song. To round out the wide assortment assort-ment of melodies in the picture, "Lula's Back In Town," is presented pre-sented as a low-down "hot" number num-ber and as it is rendered by the Four Mills Bros, and Ted Fio-Rito's Fio-Rito's orchestra, it is bound to score high with the music public. "A I II HAWKS" Dealing with a death ray which can cause destruction from almost any distance "Air Hawks" a Columbia Col-umbia picture featuring Ralph Bellamy, Wiley Post, Tala Bircll, Douglass Dumbrille, Victor Kilian, and Billie .Seward, comes to the Rivoli theater on Friday and Saturday. Sat-urday. While the ray in the film is not actually ' the type with which scientists and military experts have been experimenting for many years, it shows conclusively the manner in which the beam may be u.S( d in the future. Tile story concerns two rival airlines, one headed by Ralph Bellamy, Bel-lamy, competing for lucrative airmail contracts. Bellamys' rival employs a mad scientist who has perfected an infamous machine which can project the electric beam into the skies to bring down, flaming, the planes of Bellamy's company. The source of the subsequent sub-sequent disasters is unknown to B'-llarny. but when the courage of the girl he loves and hi.s own reckless reck-less daring mere,e to battle the hidden enemy, the executioner of the skies goes down before the, onslaught in a novel climax, |
