Show DAIRYMEN OF ' COUNTY MEET INSPR1NGV1LLE BY C. FRED WEIGHT County Agent Rich, Veterinary Jones, and Professor Caine of U. S. A. C. met with the dairymen dairy-men of Utah county at the Spring-ville Spring-ville library last Wednesday night. Veterinary Jones talked on diseases dis-eases of cattle and praised Utah county for the stand they have taken in the past and their cooperation coop-eration with the veterinary in disease dis-ease control. Mr. Jones talked for some time on Bangs Abortion and Udder Troubles. Mr. Jones stated that Springville was the first community in the state to have its city pass an ordinance to the effect that all cows entering enter-ing its public pasture must be tested for Bangs Abortion and that when all of the communities do this, the state would soon be as free from Bangs Abortion as it" now is of tuberculosis among dairy cows. Mr. Rich commented on the cooperation of Utah county dairymen dairy-men and stated that the Dairy Herd Improvement association of which Del Gay is the tester, was the only association in existence today in the state. . The other associations, which were killed by the drouth, are starting again all over the state this spring. Del Gay was present and stated he would start his testing for 1935, this month, Professor Caine gave a long talk on dairy herd improvement association commenting com-menting on Utah county keeping the state of Utah on the dairy map by dairy herd improvement association testing, which proved five dairy sires in the county, of which the Springville, Mapleton, sire, known as Rossaire is the highest in production in the state and one of the highest in the Jersey breed. Professor Caine said dairying 'could not become any greater in the state or Utah as a whole, until more water resources were permanently per-manently established to water the land and produce more feed. He advised the dairymen not to increase in-crease their herds in number until more water was available but to increase production through dairy herd improvement association and by using better and proved sires. At presem Springville and Mapleton rank first in the state as a community for having "the best dairy sires. The Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton Bull Block association have five Jersey . bulls and the Holstein Bull Block have two. Springville also has the highest producing cows in the Dairy Herd Improvement association. i A. W. Cherrington has the cow with the highest individual butter but-ter fat record and Heber Houtz the highest herd record. The following dairymen have been in the Dairy Herd Improvement Improve-ment association in the past and will be this year: A. W. Cherrington, Cher-rington, Heber Houtz, Arthur Thorpe, Fred Weight, M. A. Boyer, George Peterson, . Andrew Peterson, Peter-son, Earl Diamond, Russell Childs and Andrew V. Nelson. The cow tester has proved that these dairymen have some of the highest producing cows in the state. They have sold twelve young pure bred bull calves for herd sires in different parts of the state in the last three years. Springville is noted for her art, clean wide streets, beautiful flowers and homes, but Springville is not perfect. Do you know that there is not one of the dairys that produce milk in Springville that can pass the state law for clean pure milk ? Why is this the case? you, the consuming public, have not demanded it. The dairymen dairy-men who produce the milk are willing to make their places clean i and pass the state milk laws. They have shown this by asking the Springville city council to pass a milk ordinance and now have a petition in circulation for you to sign asking for a milk ordinance and enforce of the same. Can we live in the cleanest city in the state and use milk produced as it is today ? ' |
