Show COUPLE PLAN 55th WEDDING OBSERVANCE Mr. and Mrs. James Straw, well known and highly respected residents of this city, will observe their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary anniver-sary on Friday, January 27, at their home, on North Main street. They were married on January : 27, 1884, at Provo and 'have lived j in their present home nearly fifty years. Mr. Straw was born in Springville, Spring-ville, January 22, 1863, a son of James and Hannah Hill Straw, early pioneers. He has made his home here always. For about 25 i years,- he followed railroad con- j struction work, doing considerable consider-able sub-contracting in this and surrounding states. Later he was stationary engineer for the Union Pacific railroad company for 11 years, retiring from this work when he was seventy years old. He is an active member of the church, was at one time in the presidency of the Third. Ward Elders' Quorum and at present holds the position of hig'h priest. Mrs. Sarah Whitehead Straw, a daughter of James and Fannie Boyden Whitehead, was born in Sait Lake City. December l(i, 1862. She came to Springville at the age of 14 years, and 'has resided re-sided here since. Mrs. Straw recalls interesting incidents of her employment in the Pioneer woolen mills when she was nine years old. Of her working as an apprentice to learn the trade without pay for the first year and of managing two looms at 11 years of age. She is a charter member of the Daughtei's of Utah Pioneers, Camp Springville, and also a member of the Service Star Legion Le-gion of which organization she was at one time president. She is an active member of the church having been engaged for a num- i ber of years as a Relief Society ; teacher. The couple are parents of eight children, four of whom are liv- ; ing: Mrs. Hilda Coffman of Provo; Pro-vo; Mrs. Muriel Parks and Mrs. 1 L. D. George of Los Angeles. 1 Calif., and Lee H. Straw of Og- j den. They also have four grandchildren. grand-children. j |
