Show Girl Wins Jex Medal La Rue Jensen of the Brigham Young university was the winner of the Jex oratorical contest held in College hall Wednesday morning, with her oration "The Daily Challenge." Chal-lenge." "To meet tho daily challenge," Miss Jensen declared, "it is necessary neces-sary to dream of the things to be achieved and must possess powers of achievement." Dorothy Mensel placed second in the contest with hor oration "Benedict "Bene-dict Arnold" Miss; Mensel found parallel to Arnold's betrayal of trust, in the theft of public funds by trusted city officials. . William Jex, a son of Heber C. Jex, the donor of the medal, made the presentation. Mrs. Heber Jex was also present at the contest. The Judges were Profs. W. J. Snow, J. M. Jensen and Grant Ivins. The next contest at the B. Y. U. will be the Dixon extemporaneous speaking contest. The subject this year will be the Boulder dam. The exact time of the contest has not been decided. |
