The invitation for. the world jaunt has been extended by the A. A. U., word to that effect having been received fro.i L. B. Handley of New York. . Shields is now attending the Utah Agricultural college at Logan, where his coach, C. S. Leaf, is handling the Aggie swimmers. Shields had intended to represent the U. A. C. in national A. A. U. competition, but it is now quite likely that he will accept the invitation invi-tation to make the world tour. This tour is slated to start in the spring and to end in October. One of Nation's Createst Shields is recognized as one of the nation's greatest swimmers, and has twice won 220 and 440-yard 440-yard free style events at the national nation-al collegiate meet, r.nd holds national na-tional records for both these events. Closing of the Provo pool halted Bud's aim to make a three-time win of the two events in national collegiate competition, and this year he moved to Logan and tho U. A. C, where swimming is in high favor. Definite word on his decision as to the world tour is expected from Shields within a few days. |
