STEEL INDUSTRIES Oil UPGRADE Operations Increase As Orders Come For Projects PITTSBURGH, April 15 (U.R) The steel industry is bounding back from its low level, bringing plant expansion expan-sion as well as added working hours to thousands of employes, em-ployes, a United Press survey showed today. . ; ji Two Bridge Jobs There has been a mass of small orders and a few Large placements. Two west coast bridges have orders or-ders totalling $44,000,000, assuring some plants a market for their products for four years. The Erie Railroad company has placed an order for almost 25,000 tons of rails. The Sun Oil company and the Pure Oil company have ordered order-ed 4,000 tons of stee! pipe to be used in an 80-mile line between Toledo and Detroitj ' Operations have increased generally. gener-ally. The Newcastle plant of the American Sheet and Tin Plate company com-pany will operate at capacity next week for the first time in several years. ' , Upswing General In some quarters it was believed believ-ed the upswing would continue until un-til the level of January and February Feb-ruary was reached and that it might be maintained well into May.
