ROAD WORK FOR M Utah Allotted 1000 Men For Forest Army Work WASHINGTON, April 19 (U.R) Urging highway construction con-struction as the best possible means of unemployment relief, re-lief, as far as the state of Utah is concerned, Governor Henry H. Blood went into conference with congressional congression-al "and government groups soon after his arrival here Tuesday. The governor is' especially anxious anx-ious that Utah be not overlooked in the proposed public works program pro-gram which is now in process of shaping. ' i Robhwon Active . At the invitation of Congressman' Congress-man' J Will Robinson of Provo. the governor met with a group, of congressmen from the Intermoun-tain! Intermoun-tain! states, all interested in the continuation of federal aid appropriations appro-priations for road construction purposes. The Utah executive lost no time in getting' hold of the details on the forest conservation army operations, op-erations, which are soon to be launched. 1000 Men For Utah The details of the proposed Roosevelt forestiy program were discussed ' at a four-hour conference confer-ence with representatives of the secretaries' of war, interior and labor, and the chief forester. Governor Gov-ernor Blood was accompanied bs T. L. Holman of Salt Lake, chairman chair-man of the governor's committee on relief, and B.. H. Rutledge, district dis-trict forester, of Ogden. Beyond' the announcement that Utah's quota in the forestry army will be 1000 men the discussion did not touch on local problems. It has been decided definitely, however, that no men will be sent from 'the eastern states into the intermountain territory. Checking Closely Governor BloOd is taking pains to make sure that the unemployed unem-ployed of his state will get the maximum benefit from' the forestry fores-try relief program, and at the same time that the work, is done on projects that will be of the greatest benefit to the state. Utah's projects as outlined in the $57,000,000 program which he brought with him, were further discussed by the governor at a luncheon with Director Parsons of the federal, relief committee last night. |
