Show It's Up to You Mr. Merchant With the passing of each year Springville like other progressive cities of the west enters new fields in its development. For nearly forty years this city has supported a newspaper, and while at times the publishers have encountered periods when that support sup-port has been somewhat meager, there no dcubt have been other times when the citizens have felt that the paper itself gave little in return. Some four or five years ago the paper c hanged hands and an effort was made to maintain a plant and print it at home. This venture, however, proved unsuccessful after two experienced newspaper men had given it a fair trial. It was then re-sold and from that time up to the present it has been issued from another shop. i At this time the paper seems to have encountered one of those periods that would reflect re-flect an indifference as to its existence. We believe thai a vast majority oi the business people of the city, and many others, feel that Spring-ville should have a newspaper, but there seems to be a total lack of appreciation of what is required to give them one. We doubt if there was ever a time in th z history of Springville when the newspaper was in a better position to render service than is the Springville Herald at this time. It can be and now is being produced more economically than any paper in the slate, and yet it is in a position to offer a service that few weeklies of the entire country are able to offer. In spite of all this it cannot be produced without the support of the merchants of Springville, nor will it be produced withou t that support. ( There are half a hundred business house ; here that could well afford to lend a helping help-ing hand to the home town paper, and yet on !y half a dozen give that support. They could afford to do so because they would be benefitted by added business that would come to them. Not only would they be doin ? themselves a service, but they also would be doing the town justice in pulling trade here that rightfully belongs to Springville. With the new mail carrying system that goes into effect early in November the ' Herald will be delivered into the homes of nearly 700 Springville families on the morning that it is issued. This will give 700 housewi ts, 700 husbands, and twice that many other oth-er members of the family an opportunity to glance through its columns early Friday. They will not have to go to the postoffice to get their paper, which too often they cannot find time nor have the inclination to do. Mer.LariJs whose bargains are listed in the Herald will know that their message is going right into the home. i This should and no doubt will be an incentive for the business men of Springville to give the home town paper the support it m :rits. With that support given this paper can do much in lending its aid to the development of those things that are of vital interest to Springville. It is your paper. It stands f or the things that you stand for in the development de-velopment of this community. If you believe it can be of value to you and to your community com-munity let that faith be shown in such a way that we can continue to publish it and to improve it with each succeeding issue. That is the thing we should like to do K's up to you. |
