Show MISSIONARY ; ENJOYS WORK Springville Man Reviews Activities of El Paso Mission Mis-sion of L. D. S. Church Expressing his appreciation for !he Evening Herald which he states he enjoys very much Carol Bird of Spriugville writes interestingly of his experiences as a missionary of the I;. 1). S. church at El Paso, Texas. "T have been laboring here in EI l'aso nearly seventeen months and have found the work very interesting in-teresting a privilege I appreciate more each day. AYhile the majority of the people are not especially interested in us or our message, we have found a f e w who were ready to believe our message. However, How-ever, we are not discouraged, and we have hopes of enlisting the attention at-tention of many others before we leave. "'El Taso is a splendid city in which to labor with the exception of the hot months, and the past three have been terrible. In fact September was the hottest September Septem-ber they have had for seventeen years and I know it was the hot-est hot-est one I ever hope to experience. Nevertheless, the heat has abated, thus making the weather delightful at the present time. 'Being n border city, El Paso is composed of many nationalities, whom we meet in our teaching. This creates intense interest and knowledge. Three-fourths of the population is composed of Mexicans, which almost necessitates an understanding und-erstanding of the Spanish language. We often have need of it but haven't the time to spend on lang-guage lang-guage study. "Our time is so completely taken up with the 'English Portion' of the Mexican mission. Of course we have picked up a few words now and then and can understand part of the sermons given' at the 'Spanish Branch'. The 'Mexican mission' is divided into two distinct fields of labor, na mely : the "English speaking speak-ing people' and the 'Spanish speaking.' speak-ing.' Pour of us are working anions the English and there are usually seven or eight among the Spanisli, , AA'g all enjoy our work and are sorry, in many ways, when given releases. "Although we are always busy if is a real treat to read the 'Evening 'Eve-ning Herald', which is almost like a letter from home. I do appreciate it and thank you so much for sending send-ing it to me." |
