Show COUNTY HEALTH UNIT IS DOING SPLENDID WORK Many Children Benefit From Early Detection of Serious Ailments The fourth monthly health conference con-ference under the direction of the I'Uih County Health unit has just been completed Dr. G. H. Christ-ensen Christ-ensen is the examining physician and Evnlina Reed, county nurse. Mrs. Emma Alleman is acting in the capacity of district supervisor and is being assisted by Mrs. John Dongall, Mrs. Mabel Kindred, Mrs. Josie Alleman, Mrs. Susie Boyer, Mrs. Mary Reed, Mrs. Margaret Gledhill, Mrs. Hannah Mendenhall, Mrs. Hazel Robertson, Mrs. Eva Crnndall, Mrs. Delia Harris and Mrs. Irene Cook. During the past three months the report shows that sixty-two chil-dren chil-dren have been examined. Of this number no defects were noted in fifteen, while seventy-six defects were detected, making more than one defect per child. The report calls attention to the fact the most children enter life comparatively free from defects but that very few of them arrive at school age without from one to five defects. To often, it is pointed out, that adults expect these little children to make their grades without a failure fail-ure of repetition of grades, and if failure is ' experienced the school system is often said to be at fault. "No child with bad vision, decayed de-cayed teeth, malnourished bodies, infected ears, diseased tonsils, heart lesions, hernias, are fit to perform the tasks we expect of them when we send, them to school", says Mrs. Reed. -Sixty per cent of the failures fail-ures in the child's life are due to correctable defects. "Children are silent sufferers when defects overtake them. When they report at the table three times i a day, or do not call the parents for attention during their restless nights, or tell of their pains we take it for granted they are in good health. "These health conferences are not for the purpose of picking the children chil-dren to pieces as it were, but a conference for the well being of the child where the parents, doctor and nurse confer for the betterment of the child or the prevention of defects de-fects and allow the child to have a positive health and its rightful heritage." It is suggested by the health officials offi-cials that infants be taken to the conference once eaen month until they are one year old, weaned and well established In their new food hnbits. The next conference will be held in the Springville Third ward assembly as-sembly hall, July 19, from 1 to 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
