Show Work of Hyenas t Libel of the illustrious dead seems to be catching, it being safe and finding a market, up to date. Following the exposure that George Washington made ' his own beer, never hatcheted a cherry tree, liked the so ciety ladies and cussed when sufficiently heated up, came the infamous attack on Gladstone. Now, the hyenas among the literati have slirred the French by their ghoulish work upon the private life of George Sand, France's famous woman wo-man writer, friend of Chopin, do Musset and other celebrities. In the Sands cane the mistake made in the Gladstone case will be repeated, by bringing a law suit, thus encouraging the dirty-minded part of the public to mull over the matter nnd, probably, making the offensive publication more profitable pro-fitable to its author. One would think that there is enough in tfie going ccandals among the higher-ups to siuiate the appetite of those who crave such stuff. There is something putrid in j civilization's morals, taste and intellectuality, when it-be comes profitable, in any respect, to defame the truly great ! deed; and, there is also something rotten in the policy of j permitting it. |
