Scopes' five days in the metropolis metro-polis have been crammed full of conferences and during his brief stay here the now famous teacher has talked with more noted men than he would have seen in 100 years in his home town. With the enlistment of the services ser-vices of Clarence Parrow, Dudley Field Malono, liainbrige Colby and others representing some of the nation's na-tion's finest legal talent, plans for Scopes' defense are virtually complete.. com-plete.. Today will he spent in brief conference with his supporters, after af-ter which, with Dr. John E. Ncal, his senior counsel, Scopes will start back to Dayton. In outlining the case, Darrow said there were two main issues involved. in-volved. "The first is whether evolution evo-lution is contrary to the teaching of God as contained in the Bible," he Said. "Mr. Bryan believes it is. I do not. I find nothing in evolution contrary to the Bible and have been an evolutionist for fifty years. "The second issue, which is even more important, but which will come afterwards is whether a state has a right to prescribe education in science." Being one of constitutional law, this second question would more likely to be fought out in a higher court than that of Dayton in which Scopes is to be tried, Darrow said. |
