Interest among i citizens of Springville is becoming I concentrated on politics according to whisperings heard here and there. While no definite lines of partisa demarkation have thus far been drawn, there nonetheless is consid- erabie interest manifest as to who is who. In a statement made to a Herald representative Wednesday Mayor G. ; K. Maycock declared that he would : I not under any circumstances b a ! candidate to succeed himself. "I couldn't succeed myself if I would and I wouldn't if I could." was the way the mayor put it. He explained that he already is over burdened with responsibilities, and , while lie is not unappreciative of : 1 the honor conferred upon him by his fellow townsmen, yet he could not think of becoming a candidate for re-election. '1 There will be four vacancies to ' fill In the city council, the terms uf the following council men expiring December 81 : John F. Smith. M. W. Bird, William Whitehead, and Or- r son Hutchinson. II is understood that Mr. Whitehead will be a can- j didate to succeed himself as a can- ; didate from the Fourth municipal ward. It is thought that Judge Hutchinson, who has served only part of a term, having been apimint-ed apimint-ed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of O. L. Baron, will be a candidate to succeed hi nisi1! f 1 from the First Municipal ward. Aside from t hese two and Dr. John H. Anderson, who Is the holdover hold-over council man, no names ha vu been mentioned as probable candidates candi-dates for the position of councilman, In addition to these posit ions j there will be a recorder elected to i fill the place now held by W. W. j Harrison. Jt is understood that Mr. i ' Harrison will go before the voters for re-election on the merits of his past six-year record in that position.
