Plans j ' for the consolidation of a half-dozen I, long dormant railroad enterprises in j California, Utah, Arizona and Colo-rado Colo-rado toward the possible promotion ji , of a new line which may ultimately form an important link in a trans- ', continental system has been an- : nounccd in Los Angeles. ' The new road, which is not yet in- C corpora led and for which the pro- J, moters say stock will not be offered offer-ed to the public, is named the Colorado-Utah Pacific railway. It is dubbed by the promoters the "C. U. J' P." system and they have devised a symbol of a cup and saucer for it. Offices of its financial depart- J ment have boon opened on the tenth floor of the Marsh-Strong building, j Ninth and Spring streets, in Los Angeles and in Denver and Salt t Lake as well. Those associated with the promo- ' tion include Judge John T. Pope, I former altorney general of Utah. ; . George Blair Sturgeon, former con- 4 suiting engineer. University of California Cali-fornia ; II. M. Gilliam of Los Angeles; An-geles; Arch L. Mitchell, former state corporation engineer of Oklahoma Okla-homa and ore connected with Gen- 4 eral Goethals in the construction of the Panama canal ; C. B. Oliearn Jof the Neal Stationary company; I. Sterling, formerly of the Gold Seal Refining company and Utah and eastern capitalists, whose namea will not be made public until conferences con-ferences now being conducted are concluded. The proposed road will be in three divisions. The .first calls for the ' purchase outright of the Moffat I route, for which promoters say au option has been obtained at at price of 32 cents on the appraised dollar valuation ; the completion of the con- ! struction of the now unfinished tunnel tun-nel from the Denver side of the j mountains to a point near Krem-mling, Krem-mling, Colo., with the resultant ! abandoning of twenty-three miles of : ; existing road over (he mountains;- ' ' ar.d the straightening of (he road into in-to its terminus at Craig. Colo. This will call for expenditures of $").r(Ki.(KK for the purchase of the road and an additional $1,000,000 for the completion of the tunnel.
