Show Society MRS. .1. F. WINGATE Reporter The Mutual officers of the Third wiu-il surprised Mr. mid Mrs. W. A. I'irningo at their home, to bid them farewell. Those present numbered twenty. After an evening of games refreshments were served. The Saturday evening card club met last week with Mrs. D. A. Smith. Dinner was served at six o'clock. The quests were seated at one long table, which held bowls of violets and Easter symbols for its adornment. Dinner was followed by bridge, with Mrs. George Itussell winning first prize; Mrs. V. S. Wilson, Wil-son, guest prize; Mrs. filen Xeil consolation prize; Mrs. IT. T. Roy-nolds, Roy-nolds, Jr., and Mrs. S. C. Whittaker draw prizes. Other than the club members, there were three guests, Mrs. Kay Hansen, Mrs. Harold Christensen and Mrs. V. S. Wilson. Miss Josephine Clark spent the week-end in Salt Lake City visiting her sister, Mrs. It.. A. Huntington. Mr. E. E. Knudsen and A. J. Ja-cobsen Ja-cobsen went to Salt Lake on business busi-ness Saturday. Dr. George Smart and Prof. A. B. Wright visited in Springville Sunday. Sun-day. Mrs. Andrew Pierce has returned to her home in Springville, after spending a month with her daughters daugh-ters in Logan, Sinithfield and Og-deu. Og-deu. Mrs. Ben Argyle and daughters, Zell and Coe, of Spanish Fork, spent Sunday with Mrs. Argyle's mother, Mrs. N. J. Deal. Mrs. W. J. Groesbeck entertained at dinner Sunday for her daughter, Miss Helen Groesbeck, of Salt Lake, Mrs. Bert Groesbeck of Park City, and Miss Orpha Deal. Mrs. John Mendenhall is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ted Cbristensen, in Fairview.. Dell Rowland left Tuesday for Florida on an extended business trip. 20, with a surprise party at his liome. . Miss Preal Packard and Miss Margaret Watson, of Salt Lake, visited in Springville Saturday and Sunday of last week. Mrs. Glen Thompson and two children chil-dren of Spanish Fork have been the guests of Mrs. Edwin Rowland for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Whittaker went to Provo Tuesday evening to attend the party given by Dr. and Mrs. Heindselman. One of the outstanding social functions of the season was the art dance given Wednesday evening in the Opera house by the three federated fed-erated women's clubs of Sitting1, ville. The hall was suggestive of springtime in its decorative green background and baskets of varicolored vari-colored flowers. Many patrons of Springvillo's ait project were in attendance. A special feature of the evening was a demonstration of new jazz steps by two of Spring-ville's Spring-ville's clever child-dancers, Tess Chikls and Hazel Anderson, dressed as a maid and a hell-boy, repsective- iy- A delightful and artistic interpretation interpre-tation of the new Merry. Widow-waltz Widow-waltz was given by Miss Florence .lepperson and Harold Jefferies, of Provo. They gave another new-dance new-dance as an encore. Girls from the local high school served punch from an attractive booth. Edwin Rowland, who has been in Scofield during the winter with the Reynolds-Ely Construction company, com-pany, spent the week-end at home. Mrs. Glen Thomas and two chil- dren have returned to their home in Spanish Fork, after spending a week with relatives in Springville. Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Miner gave a party at their home in honor of the nineteenth birthday of their son Eugene. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jensen and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Memory and family from Spring Canyon. Cut flowers and the birthday cake, with nineteen candles, decorated the table. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jensen entertained enter-tained at dinner Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Memory and three children, Betty Joe, Frank George and Gordon Keith, who are going to California to make their home. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Miner, Eugene and Marian Miner Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Dalton gave a candy pull and card parly for Mr. and Mrs. Frank Memory, Mrs. M. F. Minor, Eugene and Marian Miner, Dean Bench and Frances AVnunacot. The Mothers' Study Club met at the home of Mrs. I'hilinda Finley last Friday with fourteen members in attendance. A vocal selection, "Serenade," was given by Mrs. Anna An-na Harwood, who was accompanied by Mrs. Mary Hill. A synopsis of the life of Dorothy Canfield was given by Mrs. Drucilla Clark. Three stories "Uncle Ellis, "A Great Love" and "Old Man Warner," by this noted author, were reviewed by Mrs. Rena Roylance. Mrs. Beth Dall'u was voted as a member of the club. Refreshments were served serv-ed by the hostess, who was assisted by Mrs. Flora McKenzie. Mrs. N. M. Eldredge of Pocatcllo, Idaho, is spending a month in Springville visiting with her sister, .Mrs. J. E. Wonnaeott. Mrs. II. K. Neill and daughter ' Anna, of Richfield, are visiting 1 with her son, Dr. Glen G. Neill and wife. Mrs. T. S. Wilson spent last week end in Salt Lake City visiting with tier mother, Mrs. H. C. Beauman. Mrs. Dasil Smith entertained the Saturday nfteroon card club. High score ivns won by Mrs. V. S. Wilson Wil-son and Geo., Russell and draw-prize draw-prize by Mrs. Sam Whlllaker. Mrs. Glen G. Tackard, John Mendenhall and D. A. Smith, together with the Springville Kiwanis quartet, went to Provo Thursday to attend a meeting meet-ing of representatives of the various chamber of commerce of the state. The Home Culture club met Friday Fri-day at the home of Mrs. II. B. Bnr-kett, Bnr-kett, with fifteen members present. Mrs. Mary Finley read one of Margaret Mar-garet Montague's stories,' "England "Eng-land to America,"and Miss Bessie Sutherland gave a humorous reading. read-ing. Roll call was answered with political' leaders of the day. The Kiwanis club held its weekly luncheon Thursday evening at the Third ward amusement hall. Del) Thorne was toastinaster and J. M. Nichols won the attendance prize. In behalf of the club, Harold Christensou presented Wm. N. Grooms, a recent groom, with a pair of house slippers, a pipe and a can of tobacco. M. O. Packard, J. F. Wingate, E. E. Knudsen and M. R. Straw offered the club's congratulations congratu-lations to Mr. Groms. Trof. Harrison Harri-son It. Merrill, of Provo, gave a talk on the modern poets. Music was furnished by the First ward male quartet. The Novelty Circle, had charge of the assembly at the high school Friday Fri-day morning, with Miss Mnble Reynolds Rey-nolds acting as chairman. Harold Allemnn, of the faculty, gave the invocation; in-vocation; a ladies quartet, composed of former high school students, sang two songs and Miss Lihby Cook, of the B. Y. U. gave an excellent excel-lent reading. Jrof. A. J. .lacobson. also a member of the faculty, gave an interesting talk, which was followed fol-lowed by two instrumental selections selec-tions by a trio from Provo. A party was given for Mrs. Lydia I Johnson on Wednesday at the home j of Mrs. D. B. Welch. Sewing and was the assisting hostess. The life of Dorothy Canfield was read by Mrs. Drucilla Clark, after which Itena Roylance read three stories by the same author. Mrs. rani nar-wood nar-wood gave a vocal sole,, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Whitney. There were eighten members and two guests present. l-M. The Wednesday Evening bridge club met with Mrs. Steven Deal this week. There were three tables. Mrs. Ike Johns won the playing prize and Miss Mary Bird the draw prize.
