Show HIGH SCHOOL AG. BOYS WIN ATCOUNTYFAIR The Springville high school ngri-! cultural boys, under the direction of G. L. Barron, are proving themselves real -winners as live stock judges alid exhibitors. At the Utah county fair the judging judg-ing team consisting of Mack San-ford, San-ford, Ronald Whiting and Sylvester. Allan placed third and Mack San-ford San-ford tied a member of the Lehi team for high individual score. With their rmrebred Chester White bogs, the Springville Gig Club boys took first, second and third places in both the open class, and the junior project pro-ject class in which they were entered. enter-ed. Besides being consistent winners at the county fair the boys showed that they also have the spirit of service by grabbing the chance to decorate the hall at Glengarry for the fair carnival as soon as it was presented by the fair committee. With loads of corn and squash and leaves they made quick work of changing the bare interior of Glengarry Glen-garry hall to a proper setting for the carnival. With their interest arroused by the winnings at the county fair the agricultural boys dove into the rpep-arations rpep-arations for the state fair with real determination. Twenty head of pure-bred Chester White hoge that had never bad a bath before were scrubbed white with soap, dusted dust-ed with talc and trucked off to Salt Lake City. Every boy wns confident confi-dent that he had a winner, but that confidence suffered a setback when it wns learned that Charles Wetzel of Itbica, Michigan, was at the fair with two car-loads of world champion Chester Whites. The hoys hogs went into the ring against the finest hogs of the breed that have ever been shown in Utah and fame away with one first, five seconds, sec-onds, five third, one fourth, and one fifth p"liice, amounting to nearly a hundred dollars in cash as well as a string of pretty ribbons. The stock judging team, consisting of Sylvester Allan, Ronald Whiting and Myron Childs with Mark San- ford and Wendell Mendenhall as alternates al-ternates won second place in the ; contest witli fifteen teams entered. These boys are all new at the game and by the time the Ogdeu show-is show-is held Mr. Barron is confident that they can win first place and high individual scores as well. 1 |
