Show STAKE RELIEF SOCIETY IS Mrs. Electa Smoot Dixon, for 11 Years Members of Stake Board, New Fresident. Mrs. Inez Kuurht Allen, who has served on the. Utah srako RoUef society board loncrcr than any other I person in the stake, was honorably J released from her position as president presi-dent of the stake organization at the i Sunday afternoon session of the quarterly conference and Mrs. : Electa Smoot Dixon, wife of Senator Sena-tor Leltoy LHxon, was sustained as the new president. More than six months aso, Mrs. Allen requested the stake presidency to select her successor as she felt that she could no longer carry on the work in which she has been engaged en-gaged upwards of 2 years. At that time the authorities persuaded Mrs. Allen to remain as head of the organization orga-nization until later on while .they would take her resignation under advisement. It is understood that one reason for her request to be released at this time is the fnct that she is intending to make a tour of Europe within the next three or four months. It is expected that her son, Mark Allen, who is now laboring as a missionary in England, will be released at that time and that he will tour the continent conti-nent with his parents. The trip to Europe will also be made by Mrs. Allen to renew old acquaintances made by her while laboring as a missionary in England several year ago. Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Jennie Brimhall Knight were the first lady missionaries to be sent , out by the Church of Jesus Christ 1 of Latter-day Saints to a foreign j mission. Mrs. Allen labored for 26 months in the British mission, leaving leav-ing Provo in 1S9S and returning in 1900. During the past six years Mrs. Allen has been at the head of the Utah stake Relief society and has established the organization as one of the best in the church. Following the honorable release Sunday of Mrs. Alien, Elder Stephen L. Richards of the quarum of the Twelve paid the retiring president and her co-work- ; ers a glowing tribute. 'The intelligent resourcefulness of Mrs. Allen and her board has stood out as a beacon light' said Elder Richards. '"The work of your stake Relief society has gone out over the confines oi this church and hap bnon instrumental in doing much good." Before becoming president of JJic organization. Mrs. Allen served ten years as a counsellor to Mrs." Martha F. Kccler, during her entire incumbency ns president of the or-;;ni:;ilion. or-;;ni:;ilion. During the three y.v.r. previously to being n member of the presidency, Mrs. Allen served as secretary of the hoard while Mrs. Mary John was the stake president of the Relief society. Mrs. Allen has been an ardent worker in other organizations also, at one time being an officer in the Y. L. M. I. A. of the old Fourth ward embracing the present Fourth, Fifth and Manavu wards. She was also the first parent class teacher in the Provo First ward Sunday school. Released with Mrs. Allen are also her counsellors, Mrs. Annie D. Palm- ind Mrs. Ina G. Hodson, the sec- rctd;.,, - . ... the following board members: Mrs. Emma S. Jeusn, Mrs. Electa Dixon and Mrs. Mary Huish of Provo and Mrs. Anna S. Bird of Springville. To succeed Mrs. Allen as president presi-dent of the organization the stake presidency has selected Mrs. Electa Dixon, who was sustained by popu-lor popu-lor vote at the stake conference Sunday. Sun-day. Mrs. Dixon la exceptionally well fitted for the position, having been a memler of the stake board during the past 11 years. Her counsellors or board members have not as yet been selected. |
