Show PIONEER DAY IN SPRINGVILLE Pioneer day wus celebrated in Springville in a fitting manner under the direction of the four ward Sunday schools. The Springville band started the day's program with an open-air eon-cert eon-cert in the city park at 9 a. m. At 10 a. m., a large crowd gathered gather-ed in the Springville opera house, where the following patriotic program pro-gram was given with S. C. Whit-taker Whit-taker of the First ward acting as master of ceremonies: Selection by a ladies' chorus from the Third ward, composed of Miss Jessie Johnson, Miss Ruth Boyer, Mrs. Anna Bird Harwood, Miss Freda Roylance, Miss Jessie Packard and Miss Louise Coffman ; invocation by Harold Alleman ; clarinet duet by Clifford Kindred and Jean Allemnn ; patriotic address, Ford Crandali; selection from a male quartet from the First ward, composed of Glen, Wilber and Ronald Allan and Guy Brown ; selections from the Springville Spring-ville band ; and benediction by ' W. W. Harrison. Games and contests were carried on at the city park during the afternoon for the youngsters, while a baseball game at the high school campus between Springville and the Utah-Apex team from Bingham Canyon furnished entertainment for the grown-ups. The pageant, ''Summer Time," ( staged on the city park by the Third ward Sunday school, at b' o'clock in the evening, was one of the biggest features of the day. A band concert con-cert at 7:30 completed the day's program. |
