Show CHAS. M. BIRD DIES AT HOME IN MAPLETON Devout Member of L. D. S. Church Taken Suddenly 15y Heart Trouble Charles M. Wrd. woll known farmer of Mnploton, died suddenly nt bis home there at 4 :10 Thursday Thurs-day morning from acute heart trouble. trou-ble. Mr. Bird had been in his normal nor-mal health and spent Wednesday vlsltlnc with his daughter, Mrs. Leonard Hill at l'nyson. lie retired as usual Wednesday niht and was not known to be ailing until his' wife heard him breathing heavily at an early hour Thursday. She made an effort to awaken him and upon close investigation found that he was dead. About a year ago Mr. Bird suffered suf-fered au attack of heart trouble but soon recovered. Since that time he suffered slight attacks, but did not regard them as of serious consequence. conse-quence. Born In Springville June 15, 1850, the son of Richard nnd Emeline Cramlall Hjlrd, he had lived in this locality practically all of his life. July 25, 1878, he married Abbie Anne Whiting of Maple-ton. where they have lived since 1SS0. Throughout his life Mr. Bird wag faithful in the fulfillment of his church duties. In December, 1885, he was appointed secretary of the first Sunday school organized at Mapleton. Later he was appointed saperintendent of the Sunday school which position he held for 27 years. He also served as president of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement association for four years and as ward clerk for 20 years, and in numerous other minor church capacities. cap-acities. When IS years of age lie filled a mission to St. George where he worked faithfully in the construction of the L. D. S. temple there. He also served as a member of the district school board for 15 yenrs. Surviving are his widow and the following sons' and daughters: Al-. Al-. per W. and Merrill W. Bird, and Mrs. R. L. Mendenhall, all of Maple-ton; Maple-ton; Freeman C. Bird and Mrs. Leonard Hill of Pnyson ; Mrs. Hy-rnm Hy-rnm and Mrs. Walter Manwaring, both of Rexburg, Idaho ; also two sisters, Mrs. O. B. Huntington and Mrs. Luella Kindred, both of Springville. Funeral services will be held in the Mapleton ward chapel Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body Is In charge of the A. Y. Wheeler undertaking establishment. |
