Show PENNEY ADDS 117 STORES TO GREATJHAIN Mr. C. W. Busard, manager of the J. C. Penney Company, has received re-ceived word that his organization has announced the purchase of the J. B. Byars Company, including the W. J. Lindsay Company recently recent-ly purchased by the Byars Company, Com-pany, and the J. N. McCracken Company; the two operating 117 Golden Rule stores in the following states: California g Colorado 22 Iowa i Kansas 29 Missouri j Montana i0 Nebraska jq North Dakota 1 Oklahoma 5 South Dakota 5 Texas 1 Wyoming "12 The J. B. Byars company, composed com-posed of 101 department stores, has their general office in Denver, Colorado, Colo-rado, and purchasing office In St Louis. The J. N. McCracken Company operates 15 stores in Montana and one in North Dakota, with headquarters head-quarters in Livingston, Mont. These stores carry a similar line of merchandise as the J. C. Penney Company and, with very few exceptions, ex-ceptions, are In towns not occupied by them. The J. C. Penney Company Com-pany standard store fronLs and regulation fixtures will be installed. The new stores are being taken over as of January 1st, 1929, and the entire personnel will be retained retain-ed as far as is possible. The total sales In 1928 for these groups were In the neighborhood of $8,000,000. It is expected that they will do a business In excess of 110-000,000 110-000,000 in 1929.
