Show PLANTS HAVE HEART ACTION SAYS INDIAN ' An Indian investigator, Sir Jaga-dis Jaga-dis Chandra Bose, of Calcutta, has shown that plants have hearts and :thnt their life mechanism is identical identi-cal with that of animals. Likening the heart of the plant to the elongated heart of the earthworm, earth-worm, in which peristaltic action propels the 'circulating fluid, he demonstrated .the activity of the cells of the plant in the propulsion of the sap from the roots of the-tree the-tree to the. upmost .leaves. Each active cell during expansion absorbs water from below, and expels it upward during the phase of contraction. con-traction. The location of the plant's heart was found by means of an electric probe in circuit with a delicate galvanometer. gal-vanometer. The "heart heats" were visualized for the audience by a magnetic amplifier, of enormous, magnifying power, and a mirror which threw the reflection on a. screen. .... s- In the eoiirse of tlj'p '.exhibition-of: the 'experiments the' effect ot nlco-lltfl nlco-lltfl . l'ltf'pttfjiwap found to lie ofaty exhilarating-nature, as lt-'is in 'huv, man beings.''
