Show jFIVE LOST ON 1 SHASTA SAVED Rescue Party Finds 2 Men And 3 Women After 24 Hours. McCLOVD; Calif., Sept. 10 cf.P) Lost on the treacherous slopes of Mount Shasta, spurred to wakefulness wakeful-ness by a nightmare like far-off slipping from a narrow ledge to death, five hikers were resting at their homes today from their nerve-wracking nerve-wracking adventure. After a 24-hour hunt, a rescue party of more than 50 found the lost hikers on the icy sides of the park late last night and returned them to their homes. j Saturday two men and three I women, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Bedell, j Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bryson. and Miss Rhoda Henry, started out to climb the high mountain. Part way up the peak the five became separated. separ-ated. The two men started a search i for the women and they too became lost. Rodwell, a violin maker, was atr quaint ed with the mountain, haying selected wood from the forests on its slopes with which to make his musical instruments. Plane Locates Group . - - Bedwell found the women on a narrow ledge and after assisting them to a less precarious position the four wandered about the forests for-ests in search of Bryson. Again the party was united, but because of their exhausted condition wandered wan-dered about in "circles until an air-planer air-planer piloted by John Wilbank, circled over head. They signaled Wilbank, who returned re-turned to McCloud for food to drop to the lost party. He dropped the food and then directed a searching party to the five hikers. ; The persons were prone to speak lightly of their experiences, giving most credit to Wilbank for their rescue, but indicated they could have found the way out of the dense forests and wilderness in a short time. |
