Show BEAUTIFUL PAGEANT, TRACK MEET AND PROGRAM ENJOYED AT MAY FESTIVAL OF M. I. A. ftaij Participate In Big Annual Event; ' "Tribute of Gladness" By Prof. E. H. East- j tnond Is Enacted In Charming Manner The nnnunl May festival and track meet of the Mutual Improvement Improve-ment association of Kolob stake lc0k place bere Tuesday with afternoon after-noon and evening programs. A distinct feature of the occasion was , pageant entitled "Tribute of Gladness." under the direction o prof. E. H. Eastniond of tbe BrlK-bam BrlK-bam i'oung university, Trovo. In addition to this pleasing part of ' De program n track meet was held on tne high school campus, and a delightful program was given in the Opera House in the evening. ' The pageant was comprised of a i prologue and three episodes as follows: fol-lows: Prelude Nature's Awakening The flowers and trees are sleeping, sleep-ing, and are awakened by the Spirit of Spring reflected through the first ward chorus singing "Morning In Spring." Then comes the dance of the waving trees and the dance of the flowers, with chorus singing "Bluebird." j Episode one reflects the Spirit of Iflappiness beautifully done by a 'roup of dancers. Episode number two began with a procession of Lord and Lady of Hay, flower girls, crown hearer and pages. The crowning of the Lady Df May as queen and the solo "Secret "Sec-ret of Spring" hy Mrs. Brown, were beautiful and impressive. This ceremony was followed hy the court nance and a clown dance. The third episode consisted of pioneer dance, Spanish dance, and the Irish jig, and was concluded jritn a beautiful Maypole dance. Among the leading participants fc-pre Florence Childs, Qtteen " of " May; John Wninwright, Lord of Way; Tess Childs, Spirit of Spring; Helen Mendenhall, Spirit of Happiness; Happi-ness; Lela Mendenhall, Crown Bearer; Jack Salisbury and Fred Bird, pages ; Beth Anderson and Mary Huntington, Flower girls. F. Wingnte; Judges, E. E. Knudsen, Hugh Baxter; starter, George Barron. The evening program was under the direction of Mrs. Will Allemnn. The Fourth ward ladies chorus sang "Sing, Smile, Sleep." This group were the winners in the recent Y. L. M. I. A. contest. The First ward ladies chorus sang "Sleep, Kentucky Babe." Tbe Third ward gave a one-act one-act play entitled "Just Like a Woman," Wo-man," under tbe direction of Mrs. H. Lee Boyer, which was followed by a dance by Miss Leona Gudmuudson. Gud-muudson. The Second ward "M" Men gave an interesting stunt and an accord-ian accord-ian solo was given hy Mrs. Horace Ferrady of Spanish Fork. The Mapletou Male quartet also contributed a selection. The stage was beautifully decorated decor-ated in Mutual colors, the flowers being furnished by the Springville Floral company. |
