Show Relative of local people dies in islands A number of Springville people peo-ple and former residents including in-cluding Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Rowland of this city, were in Logan Monday to attend funeral fun-eral services for Lt. Cmdr. Hal Russell Crandall, 34, ex-Utahn who was killed July 24 at the Cubi Point Naval Air Station in the Philippines. He was the only child of E. Russell Crandall formerly of Springville and Lyle Hyde Crandall, who now live in Great Falls, Mont. Russell was a 1950 graduate of Annapolis and was among the 12 men from whom the first seven astronauts were selected. se-lected. After his graduation, he received re-ceived his pilots wings from Pensacola nad returned to Annapolis An-napolis to teach for several years. For the past four years he had made his home in Imperial Im-perial Beach, Calif. He had been ordained an LDS World missionary and was a Seventy in his ward in California. Surviving besides his wife are four daughters of California Califor-nia and his parents of Montana. |
