Show War not over for Mapleton man in Viet Nam The name of Sp. 4 C John C. Dickerson, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil C. Dickerson of Mapleton was in the news last week, when a five-man crew headed by Dickerson fought its way through Communist-infected Communist-infected South Viet Nam jungles jun-gles to safety, after their helicopter heli-copter was downed by enemy fire. His companions including a wounded Vietnamese observer were not identified. The helicopter neaaed by Dickerson was one of four crews which returned safely after their helicopters were blasted by the enemy. None of the machines were captured, the report indicated. The helicopter crew headed by Dickerson crashed about five miles from the town of Ben Cat. The men fought their way to a clearing where they were rescued. Their plane was stripped of all weapons and was later recovered. Two other helicopters, flying over the downed craft, were also shot down by enemy gunfire gun-fire but their crewmen escaped. Specialist Dickerson has been in the army since 1962. He has served at least 120 combat missions and holds the Distinguished Distin-guished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. 4-H Clubs provide informal, educational opportunities for well-rounded growth of young people capable of assuming responsibilities re-sponsibilities of leadership and citizenship. |
