Show Meet scheduled to discuss plans for guard How the proposed reduction of the Army National Guard is to affect Utah and the other 49 states will be discussed at a meeting in New York City April 29-May 2, to be attended by Maj. Gen. Maxwell E. Rich, Utah Adjutant General. The meeting is the annual conference of The Adjutants General Association of the United States, which will draw top National Guard officials of all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. "Our group wants to know exactly what the Defense Department De-partment proposes and how it would affect each State," Gen. Rich explained. "Initial information infor-mation indicates the Utah National Na-tional Guard would lose six company - size units which would total approximately 600 officers and men. "Nationwide, eight divisions would be 'realigned' under the plan," the General said, 'four each from the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. Authorized strength in the two organizations would be reduced by 58,000 eliminating some 500 Army National Guard units." |
