Some 120,000 of the fish now being held at the Kamas and Whiterocks hatcheri e s were marked during the past week prior to introduction into the two lakes. Marking of the fish, in this case the clipping of one fin, was instituted to aid in later population sampling and creel census work. Unlike other fish in the trout and salmon family, Mackinaw trout are very difficult to raise under hatchery conditions because be-cause of cannibalistic tendencies. tenden-cies. Therefore, fish of this species are generally released when they reach two to three inches in length. Current plans call for planting plant-ing of approximately 60,000 fish into each of the two waters. |
