Show Chukar plants made in 5 Utah counties Young chukar partridg e s numbering 1200 birds were released re-leased last week into seven planting sites in five Utah counties. They were raised this spring and early summer from brood birds held at the dept. of fish and game farm at Springville. Another 1600 of the birds from the Price farm are slated for release early next month with another 200 of the birds due for shipment as a gift to our fifth state, Hawaii, in the near future. Under the continuing program pro-gram of the department the young chukars are mainly stocked as supplemental plants at sites where chukars hav already been planted. Completion of last week's plants brings the total number of released chukars to 113,934 birds which have been stocked into 136 separate areas over the State since the program to setablish this exotic upland game bird in Utah was started in 1951. Late field reports indicate growing populations of birds in many sections of the State and forecast liberal hunting regulations for the chukar season this tall. Opening date for the chukar hunt this year has already been set as Saturday September Septem-ber 16. Length of season, bag limits and other regulatory measures will be set next week by the Utah Fish and Game Commission. |
