Show My trip to California . . . Jditor's Note The following article written by Ruth Bram-all Bram-all tells of the wonderful time a group of journalism students had as they represented their cities and schools on a good will tour to the coast to learn first-hand about radio, TV, movies and other media involving in-volving phases of journalism. Miss Bramall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Bramall, was sponsored by the Springville Herald and the Chamber of Commerce which asked only that she make a report of her trip when she returned. The following is her report to the Springville Herald: CALIFORNIA TRIP by Ruth Bramall The night lights and excitement excite-ment of a big city on a Saturday Satur-day night came to a group of journalism students who left Utah early Saturday morning for a tour to Southern California. Cali-fornia. A senior at Springville High this year, I traveled as good will representative of Springville on this information tour. Our first night was spent in Las Vegas on the fabulous "Strip" of nightclubs, where we saw the night life of a big city in action. Upon arriving in Upland, California, we went directly to our temporary homes. We prepared pre-pared for church and visited an Upland LDS ward that evening. even-ing. A new experience for some of the students was the opportunity oppor-tunity to speak the following morning to the seminary students stud-ents of Upland and Ontario at their Monday morning class. It was necessary to travel approximately ap-proximately 50 miles from Upland Up-land to Los Angeles each morning morn-ing in order to fill the agenda of the day. We spent this traveling trav-eling time on the famous freeways free-ways of California. The inside story of television suiting from the imagination of Walt Disney, a man interested in children and the things they like to see and do. Arriving home Sunday afternoon, after-noon, we were very tired, almost al-most to the point of sheer exhaustion ex-haustion from a very full schedule, but with the experience exper-ience of a lifetime behind us and with nine new friends added add-ed to our acquaintances. The trip was initiated by Mrs. Elayne Schwartz of Provo. I was sponsored by the Springville Spring-ville Herald and the Springville Chamber of Commerce to whom I am most grateful. was seen in action in the torm of watching the actual show being performed for video tape. After the show we had interviews inter-views with the stars. Points of interest visited, television-wise were CBS Television Televis-ion City in Hollywood, the NBC and the ABC studios, Revue Studios, and Warner Bros, and Metro - Goldwyn - Meyer movie lots. Friday and Saturday were "fun days." The students left notebooks and pencils home and turned from reporters into ordinary or-dinary kids out to have a good time and see what the world had to offer. We visited Marine-land Marine-land of the Pacific on Friday where one of the activities was having our pictures taken feeding feed-ing Bubbles, the largest whale at Marineland. Knott's Berry Farm followed by a trip to Disneyland were the features of Saturday. The quaint Ghost Town of the farm, built in the fashion of the old goldrush "boom towns" was fascinating in its remarkable details. As the guests of Disneyland, we saw many of the sights re- |
