Schwartz, right, son of Mrs. Mary Schwartz of this city, is seen aboard the USS Dixie, Cruiser-Destroyer Force US Pacific Pa-cific Fleet, receiving special commendations for his recent outstanding performance while assigned to additional duty as he worked as a technician in charge of radar installations. Letters of appreciation were also received by Tom's mother from his commanding officer stating among other things that, "Tom's initiative, technical knowledge and devotion to duty contributed significantly to the success of the team . . . . it was frequently necessary that he work for long periods with little supervision and opportunities for rest and relaxation was limited. On a tour since the first of the year and which included the Orient with present station in Japan, Tom expects to complete his stay in the Navy and be released re-leased in July. |
