Show DEATH OF A PIONEER. Peter Ahlstrom Passes Away After a Long Illness. Peter Ahlstrom, one of the pioneers pio-neers of Sanpete county, died at his home in this city on Friday evening, even-ing, June 12th, in the 69th year of his age. The deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis about four years ago, since which time he has been an invalid, the immediate cause of death being Bright's disease of the kidneys. Peter Ahlstrom was born in Malmo, Sweden, April 15, 1835, and emigrated to Utah in 1859, being among the first settlers of Ephraim. The trip from Council Bluffs to Salt Lake was made by ox team, Mr. Ahlstrom and his wife walking most of the distance and carrying their firstborn child in their arms. This child is John Ahlstrom, oneof the present county commissioners of Garfield county. Mr. Ahlstrom was a carpenter by trade and worked throughout the building of the Manti Temple, as well as doing carpenter work in tti6 St. George Temple. Deceased was the father of 21 children, of whom 18 are living. Several of his sons are residents of Tropic, Utah, of which town they were the founders. Among other children living away from Manti are Mrs. J. G. Weaver of Salt Lake and Mrs. Parley Nelson of Monroe. Funeral services were held yesterday yes-terday afternoon from the Council House. |
