Show MR. SMOOf WILL BE SEATED. Congress adjourns today at noon, and an extra session has been called by President Roosevelt to convene on Thursday, March 5th, at 12 o'clock noon. On the first day f the new session the new Senators will be sworn in. Among those who will take the oath of office will be Mr. Smoot, against whom a number of protests have been filed. These protests do not constitute proof, and as Mr. Smoot's credentials creden-tials are entirely regular, he will be sworn in and will have all the privileges of any other Senator. During the special session the various va-rious protests in the Smoot case now on file will be printed and referred re-ferred to the privileges and elections elec-tions committee. There will be a vacancy on this committee caused by the retirement of Senator Pritch-ard, Pritch-ard, which may not be filled for some time, and for this reason the Smoot case probably will not be taken up until December next, when the new congress convenes. ... In the meantime it will be "Senator "Sena-tor Smoot," and he will enjoy all privileges during the extra session. |
