Show I L J aswrrarxr OBIUARY weprwe I ALFRED REESE LAID TO REST I Passes Away After tog Hard Struggle for Life Funeral services were hold in the City Pavilion Wednesday over the remains main of Alfred Reese who departed this life on July 11th after eight months of the most intense sufferingci Bishop Hnlesof the Third ward presided pre-sided The vast congregation was called to order at 230 p m The choir led by Owen Rowe with Mrs David Prior at the piano sang Though Deepening Trials Throng Our Way Invocation was offered by Niels Anthon Joseph Poillips assisted by the choir sangO Grave Where la Thy Victory The first speaker was Elias Lewis of the First ward he said he knew Brother Broth-er Reese to be t ymm man he knew his father and mother brothers and sisters he crossed the plains in the hand cart company with him Professor Joseph A Reese was the next speaker He made a very eloquent speech eulogizing the life and character charac-ter of the deceased Dr Joseph Hughes spoke of the quiet life of Brother Reese he read a short and beautiful poem written by Mrs Jane Harwood n daughter of Brother Reese f The last speaker was Bishop Larsen who said Brother Reese was a strong pillar of the Third ward Joseph Phillips sang a solo Flee asa as-a Bird A trio was sung by Sister Annie R Beck and company That Would be Glory for Me Edward Williams sang 0 Loving Father with Miss Mary Larsen at the piano The pall bearers were Thomas Reese and John Reuse brothers of tho deceased dec-eased Alfred J Reese and Thos D Roes sons of the deceased John Moore and Morgan Bowcn Brother Reese left his home in his native land and pulled a hand cart over a thousand miles for the sake of the gospel He lived and died a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints He was a loving lov-ing father a kind husband and an honest trustworthy neighbor and citi I I zen He was n man who loved God his adopted country and his fellowman in health ho was always cheerful with I a kind word for all lie was member of tho ward choir for over fifty years I He was a lover of music and was atone at-one time one of the best tenor singers in the state He lived saddled bclovtd by all who knew him and he will long be remembered as an obliging neighbor neigh-bor and a genial friend The attendance at the funeral was one of the largest ever seen in the city and tho floral tributes were most excellent Brother Alfred Reese was born December Dec-ember 11 1841 in Meithyr Tydvil Glamorganshire South Wales He came to Utah in 1856 On August 14 J 1 1859 ho married Miss Emma David I by whom ho had two sons and seven daughters all but one of whom are living and are well respected members of society He loaves a widow two sons six daughters three brothers two sisters and thirty grandchildren |
