Show kirtland temple today A recent issue of the cleveland plain dealer gives a description of the temple at kirtland ohio as it stands today it says this prominent and historical building im was built in 1833 31 34 it stands on an elevated portion of the town overlooking much of the surrounding country it has three stories and is 5 52 2 feet from the foundation to rafters and is 80 feet long by GO 60 feet wide the interior is remarkably arranged there are two series of pulpits pul pita one at each end of the temple and each pulpit is is designed to seat three persons the pulpits in the west end are for the presidents of some of the leading quor amus of the priesthood and those of the ast end for the presidents of the Friest priesthood hood there are four tiers of pulpits at either end all of which are lettered on the west end the first tier has the letters P E M which stands tor for presiding elder of ch isedee priesthood the second tier is lettered as aa follows M P H ch isedee high priesthood the third is ia lettered P M H presiding high priest the fourth is lettered M P C priesthood council j the pulpits of tue east end consist of the following letters first tier P A presiding deacon of priesthood the second tier is lettered P T A presiding teacher aaronie priesthood the third tier is lettered P A P presiding aaronie priest the fourth is lettered B P A bishop president of aaronie priesthood subsequent to the th exodus of the saints san to from kirtland in 1837 the temple W waa badly neglected by re reason ason that there were none left who took that in terest in the building to keep it in good condition however in 1883 the reorganized anizel church having come in possession n of the building expended expanded s R considerable sid erable amount of money in repairing and restoring it to its former beau beauty ty and grandeur the temple has haa been paint painted ed white on the inside with the exception of the seats and thus gives the interior a clean pure appearance there have been four worlds conferences held in said bu building illing within the last laet thirteen years the first conference being held in IM 1883 second in 1887 the third in 1891 and the fourth in 1896 |
