Show ; SUM BACK HOME FULL 0HUI0 'PEP' Sees Big Chicago Show; ( Cadillac Display Wins Honors. PLENTY OF GASOLINE Finds Fuel Shortage Talk i ( Is Unfounded; All Fac- ; tories Busy. i i I The most cheering news any Salt Lake 1 automobile distributor has brought back 1 'voin the east afttfr an extended trip, was i announced by Fred Sharman of the Shar- man Automobile company last week, in a I 3 statement that scores of the most promt- s iicnt gasoline dealers and manufacturers ' t, throughout the east declare that reports 1 '!" a possible gasoline shortage in the i I'nited States are entirely without foun- ; . -iation. in fact, and that there are today '. 1 millions more barrels of gasoline avail- f able in the United States than ever be- : t :ore in the history of the country. c Kor months there had been reports 1 a ;":eely circulated that this country faces a shortage of gasoline that might affect J t tie operation of automobiles. Dealers i i-vt-rywhere have had main- inquiries from I : uwners and prospective purchasers. I C Mr. Sharnian lias just returned after ! r.n extended nip through eastern cities. t during which he visited the Ciiicago Automobile Au-tomobile show and the Cadillac and Oakland Oak-land factories. ! ( He made a special point investigating ( ; he gasoline situation, and the news he brings back is thoroughly encouraging to t oth automobile owners and thos-e who intend to purchase cars this year. , "I talked with many of the largest gasoline dealers and manufacturer's rep- ' rose nta lives in this line in the east," de- ; 1 dared Mr. Sharman yesterday. ; No Gas Shortage. ' "Every one o; these men. and they are ; 1 tho biggest in t he business, were very t omphalic in declaring that there is not I the slightest possibility of a shortage in , uasoilne in this country for many months ( to come. Tiiese men stated, and showed figures to prove their statements, tiiat : there are millions more barrels of gasoline gaso-line on hand today in the United States 1 than at any time in the past in the en tire history of this country. These oil men were just as emphatic in declaring that in their opinion gasoline prices will ; not go any higher than at present, and all of the men 1 talked with expressed 1 a strong hope that the prices would drop : below their present level." With respect to freight equipment for the movement of motor cars from the j eastern automobile manufacturing plants j into the west, Mr. Sharman did not find ; such an optimistic output. The Cadillac factory is doing everything every-thing in its power to secure freight ' equipment to move the tremendous pro- ' duct ion of Cadillac cars the factory has ; t n rued out. and so far as factory pro duction is concerned, there cannot be a shortage of Cadillac cars this year. The : entire problem lies in securing freight cars in which to move the Cadillacs. At prr-ent foodstuffs and coal are the only freight commodities beinc accented in the east for any Guaranteed destination. ;nd thousand of Cadillacs are be in a - driven away from the factory by d"alTS '!ose enough to go for their ars and drive them back to the distributing point. Splendid Exhibit. "I found the Ohicaero Automobile show well worth while, and I am only repeat -ins what was the consensus of opinion at show when I say that the Cadillac exhibit was by far thf most beautiful of : t he entire display," declares Mr. Shar man. "'There were no 'freak' Cadillacs exhibition. The company exhibited nnly standard models in standard Cadillac Cadil-lac colors. The new top, which is lined 'in the insid, eives the car a very handsome hand-some and dressy appearance, and two models of the Cadillacs, we now have on band In Salt Lake available for retail .!ehvery, are equipped with this new top. "We are particularly fortunate here in Salt Lake In having several of each of rhe Cadillac's complete line of cars In sto-k ready for immediate delivery to t'adllia-' customers. These models" in-' in-' iude the roadster, the phaeton, the sev- n-passeneer touring car, the Victoria and the brougham. The are all the latest mod1! Cadillacs with the new and '. lusher radiator hood and the new cowl. While we shall be able to get plentv of Cadi -lacs this year if the freight situation situa-tion is relieved, the fact remains that if a congested condition continues on the railroads we shall be entirely out of Cadillacs Cad-illacs in the very near future, and we strongly urge anyone who is considering- aCadillac car for 11 S to get in touch with us immediately, either on the cars we are now abi to deliver or those which we expect in the immediate future." Visits Oakland Factory. During his trip east Mr. hanuan visited vis-ited the Oakland factory, and reports a similar freight condition with that torn pe ny. "In respect to Oaklands. we are asrain fortunate as regards our Salt Lake store," said Mr. Sharman. "We have Oakland roadsters, tourinp cars, coupes, coupe-roadsters and sedans , here in Salt Iake in sufficient quantity at present :o make immediate delivery to quite a number of customers. We don't know when we will gei any more Oak-lands. Oak-lands. H defends entirely on the freight conditions. There are thousands of Oakland Oak-land cars ready for shipment, and the Oakland factory oven went to the extent of buy ins: many flat cars, double-deck: them and sending these cars to Chicago on the company's own special train untd such time as the railroads found themselves them-selves t: i:able to even furnish an engine for the "train. ! "Our dealers and the retail trnde '.n Salt Lake are railing for the Oaklands we now have here very rapidly, and they cannot last very long at the present rate of inquiry." I Trie Sharman company will have an elaborate exhibit of nakla nds and Cadillacs Cad-illacs in the forthcoming Hutomobile show at Bonneville park in Salt Lak i Meanwhile the company ia handling a : heavy business in these two cars at P s j temporary salesroom, I'.'T South State I street. |
