Show NO LIMIT PLACED 1 IJfil Director Cotton Brands as False Report of Three-Ounce Three-Ounce Limit. Reports to the effect that the federal food administration has placed a maximum maxi-mum limit of three ounces as the amount of mutton that may be served at a meal are branded as ' absolutely false in a telegram received yesterday by Secretary S. W. McC.'iure of the National Woolgrowers' association from Joseph P. Cotton, director of the meat division of the food administration. The announcement was made from Chicago February o. on authority of Sidney I). Gob'.eubeig of the John H. Thompson company that such ft limit was to be place on the consumption of mutton, but Mr. Cotton says that the administration has placed no such limit. In hi telegram on the subject to Secretary Sec-retary MeClure he says: Toml'mson has shown me your telegram, tele-gram, 1 1'rcss reports state new food regulations limit mutton to three ounces i per meal.' Mr. Hoover's authority 1 unqualifiedly state the food administration administra-tion has made no regulation limiting mutton to three ounces per meal nor any regulation limiting any consumption of anv meat to specified number ounces per meal. I hope such regulation will never become necessary in V'nited States. 'thilv possible thing which could have been distorted into such a statement state-ment is that certain pel sons have lol l Mr. lioover they decided not to eat more than people of France and vsi-hcd to know what French ration was. They l were told French ration included. I think, three ounces meat. This voluntary volun-tary self-denial bv certain persons who can afford it seems entirely praise-wor'.hv. praise-wor'.hv. t onscrv at ion bv the well to-do to-do means tiiat the burden of any possible pos-sible shortage falls on those who can best afford it. Without conservation evils of shortage falls on those who can leiust afford it. -that is the pour. This whole incident has no relation whatever to mutton or lamb. There is no hint of discrimination against n. niton or lambs. This statement covers whole stoiy.' |
