Two fam- i ilies and ahout a dozen men roomers were ! rendered homeless when six buildings on South State street burnel to the ground this morning. The lues is estimated at about ?,"5iX), partly -covered by insurance. The origin of the lire so far is unknown. The blaze started in Sam Hayden's second-hand store shortly after It o'clock last night and rapidly spread to the adjoining ad-joining buildings. The Suarhouse Ore apparatus responded and had the conflagration confla-gration under control ai'.er ihije hours' work. All of (he hiiiUIings. with the exception of the home of Mrs. Mandy Yarnis, whih was a two -story structure, v.-ere cheap one-story frame houses and burned like tinder. Practically all of the personal effects ef-fects of those rendered homeless were destroyed. The building adjoining Mrs. Vnrnis's home was occupied by George JnrJch and family. The other buildings were occupied by bachelors, all foreigners, foreign-ers, who rented from Mrs. Yarnis and Jurich. The fire attracted practically the entire population of Murray, and the firemen were, to some extent, handicapped by the i spectators, who constantly got into their j way. |
