Show ON WK 5110 Mrs. Estelle Smith Gives Testimony Against Defendant, De-fendant, Mrs. Mooney. By International News Service. SAN FRANCISCO, June 21. After she had become hysterical on the witness stand and complained to the court that women onlookers at the trial were making mak-ing wry faces at her, Mrs. Estelle Smith, attendant in a dental office, testified for the prosecution at the murder trial of Mrs. Rena Mooney today that she had seen the defendant In the company of two men with a suitcase before the preparedness pre-paredness parade bomb explosion. One of the men. Mrs. Smith said, was Warren K. Billings, who has already been convicted as tho man who planted the bomb at Ptt-uart and Market streets during dur-ing tho parade. The other man, she testified, was un-: un-: known to her. I According to the witness, she first snw i Billings when he entered the dental office of-fice at 721 Market street, where she was employed, and represented himself as a newspaper photographer. Billings asked for permission to go on the roof of the building to take pictures of the parade, she said, and she told him to wait until she could see her employer. 1 In the meantime Billings complained of feeling faint, she continued, and she mopped his perspiring face with a towel. "Once I started to reach for the suitcase," suit-case," she went on, and Billings started. " 'My God, girl, don't touch that he said. "When" I asked him what he was so nervous about he said he did not want me to strain the lenses In his camera." Mrs. Smith said that she saw Mrs. Mooney enter the building while the witness wit-ness was quarreling with the unknown man with the mustache who had tried to join Billings on the roof. Mrs. Mooney called this man away, she said, and left tho building with him. Billings left the building shortly afterward, after-ward, just as the preparedness parade, with Mayor Rolph in the van, was passing. pass-ing. It Is the contention of the prosecution that Mrs. Mooney, her husband, Billings and the unidentified man with the mustache mus-tache took the bomb In a suitcase to Steuart and Market streets in a Jitney bus driven by Israel Weinberg after leav- j ing the dental building where Mrs. Smith i saw the defendant. ! Five additional witnesses were called today to testify that they saw a small , auto approach Steuart and Market streets : shortly before the explosion, which oc- j curred at 2:06 p. m. I |
